MAGNAR ALEXANDER

We are an active Norwegian family of 6 searching for an au-pair to help us out from mid August 2023 to June 2024 and possibly to June 2025. A few words about our family: Our family consists of Velaug (mother, 42), Alexander (father, 45), Amalie (girl, 16), Magnus (boy, 14), Sunniva (girl, 11) and Emma (girl, 3). Emma has been attending a local kindergarten for the last two years, but will now switch to the German-Norwegian kindergarten in Oslo from August, a bit further away from home (appr 3.5 km). She is a happy and curious toddler that loves playing with her dolls and spending time with her larger siblings. Sunniva will start the 6th grade of primary school in August, she attends «Korsvoll Skole», the local school only a few hundred meters from home. She is also doing gymnastics three times a week, musical theater twice a week and has a great interest for playing the piano, singing, dancing, performing and theatre. Magnus will start his second year at secondary school «Kristelig Gymnasium» down in the city center in August. He has been a part of a well-known choir, «Sølvguttene» for many years, but has now switched to the youth department of the same choir, called «Voiceover». He is also playing the piano and has a great interest for computers and gaming, but also for aircrafts and spacecrafts. Amalie will start first year of high school in August and plan to spend the next year at a boarding school 3.5 hours away from home, so she will be home only in some weekends and school holidays. We live in a large house in Oslo, the capital and largest city of Norway, 20-25 minutes away from the city center with the subway. The house is located in the hills surrounding the city center, has a garden and is very close to a large forest («Nordmarka»). It is located in a very green, safe, quiet and friendly area. In the garden we have two rabbits, but no pets inside the house due to allergy. What we are looking for is an au-pair that love kids (but with no kids of your own) and has experience with childcare and house keeping, someone that has a calm personality and is kind, adaptable and easy to get along with. It would be a great advantage if you already have experience as an au-pair somewhere in Europe, references from earlier host-families would be appreciated. You can not be smoking or use any kind of drugs. We never drink alcohol at home, and we expect the same from you. The tasks will include helping the youngest kids getting ready for school and kindergarten in the morning, then following Emma to the kindergarten (so the mom and dad can go to work early), then be home when the older kids arrive from school in the afternoon, help them with their homework if needed. We would also like you to be able to do some light housework (laundry, tidying, cleaning and vacuuming) when the kids are in kindergarten/school, making breakfast and lunch boxes in the morning and sometimes cooking dinner in the afternoon. Most evenings and weekends you could spend as you wish (but of course you are also free to spend time with the family if you want to). Some evenings we might ask you to babysit and put the kids to bed if the parents are out of the house. What we can offer you is that you will be fully included as a family member and invited to our family activities. You will learn a lot about Norwegians and the Norwegian culture, and also be able to see different parts of our beautiful country. You will have your own bedroom in the 2nd floor of the house. This bedroom is part of a small apartment that also has its own bathroom and kitchen/living room. You will normally be able to have this separate apartment for yourself in the evenings and weekends, but during daytime the living room of the apartment will some days be used as a home office for the parents. Terms will be standard au-pair terms according to Norwegian law, food and accommodation included, 5900 NOK per month, we will cover costs of Norwegian class, necessary insurance and also a monthly pass for the public transport in Oslo.
