ENGLISH-SPEAKING FAMILY WITH TWO CHILDREN...
Dear potential Au Pair,
Our family consists of Naomi (our 5-year-old daughter), Zoe (our 7-year-old daughter), Claudia (36) and John (39). We also hope to have new baby in 2025. We live in a suburb of Copenhagen, Denmark called Hellerup.
ABOUT OUR FAMILY
We are a friendly, energetic, healthy and worldly family. Naomi is a smart, curious, thoughtful girl. Zoe is a loving, intelligent, active child who loves to connect with adults. Zoe attends school and Naomi attends kindergarten (starting school in 2025). Claudia is an executive working in management consulting and John works in technology. We describe ourselves as open, ambitious, direct communicators who are warm and empathetic. Claudia is of Danish and French background. John is of Kenyan and British background. We speak English and Danish in our home.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR IN AN AU PAIR
We are looking for an Au Pair that brings…
• Positive Personality: We want someone who brings energy into the household. A person who likes to laugh, communicates well with others and doesn’t let the bad weather bring them down. It can get cold in Denmark 😊
• Independence and initiative: We value someone who after a little instruction can think for themselves, get on with any task and find the best option.
• Educational or work experience: We value any further education and/or work you have done beyond high school not related to children.
• Childcare Experience: We want someone with experience taking care of young children. A person who can do simple tasks like walking a child to kindergarten, but also advanced tasks like sensing when a child is upset or bored and coming up with ideas to comfort or entertain. We want to have a new baby in 2025, so we want someone comfortable taking care of a baby. Us parents will do most of the baby childcare but we would expect your help several hours per week in the day time. We will take care of the baby in the night. Past experience working with young children in a home, nursery or a childhood education is highly regarded. You must genuinely enjoy being with children.
• Household Experience: We value any experience you’ve had living by yourself. Taking care of cooking, cleaning etc.
YOUR LIFE AND WORK IN DENMARK
Denmark is a welcoming, safe, entertaining country, with a small Kenyan community to help your integration. We live 20 minutes from the capital, Copenhagen city centre. We will pay for your transportation and mobile phone service during your stay. We live in a large house with 6 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms and a garden. As an Au Pair in our family, you will have your own floor in the house with a room, sofa, TV, bathroom and private entrance to the house.
In total you will work up to 30 hours per week in our home. Nearly all your evenings (after dinner) and almost all your weekends will be off. You will get 5-6 weeks of paid holiday (+ bank holidays), mainly following Danish school holidays.
Your work in our home will consist of two main areas:
1. Housekeeping: Your work in the house will involve cleaning, laundry, ironing, and cooking (4-5 times a week). We will provide instructions and cooking recipes.
2. Children: Your work with Zoe and Naomi will involve helping them get ready for school/kindergarten a few times per week, picking them up 1-2 times a week, occasionally putting them to bed in the evening. If we have a baby, we will expect you to help feed the child, and go for walks with the child. You are not expected to take care of children in the night. Once a month we might need some extra support if one of us is on a short business trip. Zoe and Naomi will typically be in kindergarten 8.00am – 3.30pm but these hours can change a little.
THE APPLICATION PROCESS
The application process will involve two rounds of video interviews (WhatsApp video) with applicants and a reference check. We hope to make a final selection in early October and will support you practically and financially with visa paperwork. However, you must have a valid passport to apply for this position.
Our third Kenyan Au Pair, Eunice, will complete her stay with us after two great years (which is the maximum stay period in Denmark) on January 5th 2025. She has had a great time and will serve as a reference for our family. When you join our family, she will train you in the tasks necessary for success.
We would like you to join us in late December 2024 and stay with our family for two years.
We look forward to talking to you!
