A LETTER TO MY HOST FAMILY
Hi there! 😊 My name is Charity Karimi Mutembei, but people prefer calling me Cherry, and I'm a 25-year-old software developer from Nairobi, Kenya, with interest in being your au pair coming next year. Besides having software development skills, I am also a teacher majoring in biology and mathematics. However, my favorite course remains psychology. Growing up in a large family, I developed a deep love for learning, and working with children and discovered how meaningful it is to help young minds explore and grow. My experience includes three years as a part-time nanny for two families with children aged 6 months to 17 years. I’ve also volunteered at local projects by organizations such as USAID to support community activities such as teaching financial literacy to young girls ages 10 to 24 years. I’m very excited about becoming an au pair abroad because I believe it’s a unique chance to combine my passion for childcare with my love of exploring new cultures. I look forward to bringing elements of the Kenyan culture to my host family, whether it’s through cooking traditional meals together or sharing some of my language in a fun way with the kids. In return, I hope to learn about my host's traditions and be part of their family life in an authentic way. I’m committed, and adaptable, and believe in creating a positive, caring environment for children to thrive. My goal is to become a reliable friend to your children while giving you peace of mind that they’re in good hands." In any case, becoming an au pair abroad is on my 'things I want to do' list because I believe it will help me grow personally before I settle down and eventually start a family of my own. I think experiencing family life in a new culture will deepen my understanding of parenting and what it means to be part of a supportive, loving environment. In the future, I want to bring the same openness and curiosity I learn here into my own family, which I hope can inspire your children as well. In my culture, we like to emphasize that it is not only our mothers who can cook. Being so, I look forward to learning through other people's eyes and understanding before I can also be a torchbearer to others. With enough experience, regarding kids and how au pairs are treated, I hope someday to also host an au pair and share my family with them. It is my firm belief that with everything I learn from my hosts, I will be a great parent and host one day too. When I’m not with the kiddos, I’m all about hiking, reading, writing, and cooking. I’d love to share these hobbies with you, whether it’s whipping up a dish from my culture or planning fun outings on weekends. I’m super flexible, communicative, and independent, so I adapt quickly and enjoy working with all kinds of families. My references can vouch for my dedication and warmth, and I’d be happy to share them if you’re interested! Experience 1. USAID Training Certification – Certified trainer for students aged 10–24, focusing on youth engagement, communication, and teaching strategies. 2. Childcare Experience (4 years) – Hands-on experience helping families with childcare responsibilities, including daily routines and educational support. 3. Au Pair Experience – Worked as an au pair for a family in my country, providing personalized and attentive care. 4. Teaching Experience – Classroom teaching experience, enhancing skills in structured learning and child development. If this feels like I can be a great fit for you and family, I’d love the chance to converse on being a part of your family, learn from you all, and make meaningful memories together as an au pair. ❤️ Cheers,
