TANZANIAN AU PAIR SEARCHING FOR A FAMILY
Dear Host Family, Nice to meet you! I‘m glad that you‘ve visited my profile and thank you for taking time to read my letter. Hello! My name is Romanus and I am 25 years old. My friends call me Rom. I want to become an au pair! I am a very cheerful and energetic person who has a lot of respect when it comes to meeting new families and being in their homes and around the family! I would like to become an au pair because I want to feel how it is to live in a different country and learn how they live day to day and hopefully build amazing relationships. I am living in Dar es Salaam which is a big city in the East coast of Tanzania and the biggest in my country with a population of over 6 million people. [In my country you find the highest mountain in Africa, mt. Kilimanjaro, the deepest lake in Africa and the largest lake in Africa. Again the World’s no.1 national park, Serengeti National Park]. I currently work as a sound technician and an interpreter (English to Swahili) in a church in Dar. But I sometimes also work as a city tour guide for a Travels Company on freelance. My granny lives one hour away. She lives with my aunt who has two little kids who I see regularly. My granny has 8 children including my dad. You can imagine the number of cousins. I speak English fluently with level C1(advanced) skills. I learned the language for 13 years (primary school and secondary school) where English was a medium of teaching and communication and later in high school and university. I also speak a little German. I have taken German language classes at Goethe Institut in Dar es Salaam. I consider my skills being at level A2 and I have a A1 German language certificate. During my summer holidays in 2019 where I visited Germany in Leipzig I helped at a kids’ summer camp (sola) and was assigned to teach the youngest group of children the basics of football. In between the short exercise lessons I was responsible for entertaining the children and we had lots of fun playing hide and seek, doing face paintings, colouring and many more games. During my school days, I spent my holidays working as a volunteer at children’s homes and during that time, I was a teacher and teacher’s aide for pupils and students at my former schools. At school I’d teach English, Science, Social studies Geography, Maths and Bible knowledge. I love reading, especially English novels and motivational books. One of my favorite authors is Dale Carnegie. In my spare time I‘d go to the gym, jogging or take a walk and even cycling. And sometimes, I join my friends to play football. I also love gardening and I have my small garden where I‘ve grown vegetables. I‘m not a vegetarian though. I would love to become your next Au Pair (or a live-in tutor) because I love children and enjoy spending time with them. I’m a responsible young man with enough experience working with children. I have babysitted and taken care of my different cousins, some are now grown up as you can see on my pictures. With children I enjoy different activities like jumping on the trampoline, playing games, or roleplaying with swords and sticks. I would want to learn about your country, the culture and the people alongside. You could get to know my country and culture as well or even learn some Swahili words like this famous phrase: “HAKUNA MATATA” from the movie: Lion King. I am prepared and I am well aware of the fact that being a big brother to your children comes along with responsibilities for them and it will not always be just play and fun. My calm and patient personality will help me to master more difficult situations for instance when the kids are tired or don’t want to listen to me. But I’m good at being creative in keeping the kids doing activities and playing with them. I am aware of what the AuPair program really is. My twin brother is an AuPair near Bremen in Germany for almost 4 months now. I am sure that I will adapt to the new tasks and daily routine quickly and become a big help for you. Living with me is really easy as I am not a demanding person. I do respect that the house is your house and that I have to follow your house rules. If something works not quite as it should, I prefer to talk instead of ignoring things. I have spent longer time away from my family during school days and volunteering programs where in 2019 summer I spent 8 weeks in Germany where I travelled alone to a kid’s summer camp in Leipzig. I am used to not seeing my family members for long periods of time so I don’t think I will become particular home sick. I am really curious to hear all about you and your children. I hope you like my profile and I can’t wait to hear back from you. Thank you for reading my letter and kind regards, Romanus
